All volunteers must attend a General Volunteer Orientation, typically held once a month and led by OPHS Executive Director Spenser McGinty.Volunteers who will be working directly with animals must also:Complete the four-module Fear Free Shelters training.Attend an animal-specific volunteer orientation with OPHS staff.

Welcome to the next generation of animal advocates! Young volunteers can support OPHS by comforting and caring for shelter animals, completing service projects, helping at special events, and much more.The minimum age to volunteer at OPHS is 10 years old.Ages 10–15: Must volunteer with a parent or adult guardian present.Ages 16–17: May volunteer independently with a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.Youth volunteers may participate during the regular volunteer hours listed above.

Need volunteer hours for school?After volunteering with OPHS for at least six months, youth volunteers may request a letter confirming their completed service hours.Interested in creating a school service project to benefit OPHS animals? We would love to hear your ideas!
