Surrender request
The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society understands that surrendering your Pet is never easy. Please take into account that we have very limited space, resources and that a Shelter environment can be very stressful for even the most well-adjusted animals.

We recommend a Surrender as a the absolute last option, And ask that all other options be exhausted before submitting a request for Surrender. Please explore the recommendations below:
If you are simply unable to provide food or other care items for your pet, please contact OPHS for assistance with food or other items, we may also be able to provide other helpful resources to assist you in keeping your pet.

-
Contact the shelter, rescue or breeder where you initially got your animal. Most adoption contracts require you to contact them before surrendering or re-homing your pet.
-
Contact your veterinarian to rule out possible medical issues your pet may be experiencing. Undetected medical issues can often cause sudden or gradual behavior changes. Sometimes aggression can even be directly linked to pain if the animal does not have emotional trauma responses.
-
Consult a trainer or behaviorist for help with common behavioral problems.
-
Reach out to friends and family members to determine if they would be willing to take ownership of your pet.
-
Please read our FAQ page for additional support & solutions before submitting a Surrender request
